This one is solely for writing purposes (and for getting criticism on said writings so that they can then be improved and turned into something actually worth the read), and will not get you very far. Elvy's Ten Commandments That Are Actually Eleven: 1. Thou shalt always use proper spelling and grammar. 1½. This excludes Net-speak from your writing. 2. Thou shalt always proofread before publishing. 2½. That means reading your own horror at least once and making it a little less horrible. 3. Thou shalt always use at least one beta-reader. 3½. Thou shalt heed what thy beta-reader has to say. 4. Thou shalt punctuate properly. 4½. That goes for the use of paragraphs as well. 5. Thou shalt aid others with constructive criticism. 5½. That means you look at the story and don't judge the author. 6. Thou shalt not steal someone else's writing. 6½. That means that snagging writing and changing the names is out of the question. 7. Thou shalt not employ melodramatics or clichés. 7½. That especially goes for angst and Mary Sues. 8. Thou shalt not use a done-to-death plot line. 8½. Goodbye Mary Sue. 9. Thou shalt not flame anyone who criticises thy work. 9½. I guess all Suvians will burn in Hell by this time. 10. Thou shalt not use slang or archaic language unsuitably. 10½. That means that Legolas uses neither. 11. Thou shalt take thy criticism for what it is and use it for thy own improvement. 11½. For your own improvement is NOT the same as flaming the reviewer. | ||||
